Aftercare instructions
Your tattoo is an open wound and taking good care of it is very important! If you don’t follow the instructions below, this could lead to infections and bad healing of the tattoo. Please note that you can only get a free touch-up session if you let us know within 2 months and have been taking good care of your tattoo. We can tell ;)
Due to your tattoo being an open wound, please don’t touch your tattoo without washing your hands and avoid pets and dirty/tight clothing for the first two weeks!
THE DAY OF THE TATTOO:
keep the protective film on for 3-5 hours
after taking it off, wash the tattoo with an antibacterial soap and pat the tattoo dry with paper towel
then apply a thin layer of Bepanthen tattoo ointment
it is not necessary to put new film over the tattoo, unless you’re being told so by your artist
THE FIRST TWO WEEKS:
wash the tattoo twice a day with soap and put Bepanthen on it 4 times a day, for four days after getting the tattoo
after four days, put the Bepanthen on twice a day
touch the tattoo as little as possible
don’t scratch the tattoo!! Dry skin and itching is normal. Scratching the tattoo or taking dry skin off will cause ink to fall out
do not cover the tattoo with a plaster or bandage
avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas and steam baths
After two weeks, the tattoo will most likely look healed and you can stop with most of the aftercare, but it will take 6-8 weeks for your skin to completely heal! Avoid the sun and tanning beds during those weeks. Not only is your skin very sensitive to UV-light t which will cause it to burn quickly (which is bad for your tattoo), the UV-light will also cause the ink in your tattoo to break down and therefore fade. After these weeks, ALWAYS put on a high SPF sunscreen!
Lastly, contact the artist and doctor in case of extreme redness, swelling, bleeding, exudate, color changes or chronic pain
